Deacon's Corner

The Deacons want to thank the congregation for their continued support of the DEACON'S BOX. The food that is provided is needed by so many. Some could not make it each month without our help. Please remember to bring non-perishable food items and paper products to donate to others. The need is great and on-going.

At the August Deacon's meeting, money was approved to purchase 24 soft-cover Bibles to be used by the inmates at the jail, a need described by jail Chaplain Dan Hayes at one of our meetings earlier this year.

The LINEN CLOSET's need for linens will surely increase as fall and winter approach. Please bring new or "gently used" items to the Church. Pillows, blankets, sheets and pillowcases, bath towels, wash cloths and throw rugs, kitchen towels, potholders, dishrags and scatter rugs are always needed.

We also keep our Church family in our thoughts and prayers, through our Prayer Chain Ministry. When you know there is a need, please let us know.

USA Today touts Presbyterian Disaster Assistance
PC(USA) ranks high with more than 29,000 Gulf coast volunteers
by Jerry Van Marter Presbyterian News Service

LOUISVILLE - According to a report in USA Today - the largest newspaper in the country - the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) has sent more volunteers to the Gulf coast to help relief and rebuilding efforts since Hurricane Katrina struck almost two years ago. According to a list compiled by the newspaper, 29,345 Presbyterians have aided the Katrina relief efforts, ranking the PC(USA) fourth among all faith-based organizations. Only the Southern Baptist Convention, Habitat for Humanity and the United Methodist Committee on Relief have contributed more volunteer workers to the relief effort. Most of the PC(USA)'s efforts have been coordinated by Presbyterian Disaster Assistance (PDA). We are deeply indebted to all the Presbyterians who have so selflessly contributed to the rebuilding of the Gulf coast," said PDA coordinator Susan Ryan. "And while public recognition is not our reason for doing this work, it is ratifying to see USA Today tell its millions of readers that the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) is so effective in bearing Christ's love to those most in need."
