Once again,
Tawas Area Presbyterian Church welcomes The Flint Male Chorus
(FMC) in concert on Saturday, May 31 at 7:00 p.m.
The Chorus
performs music of many styles and periods, ranging from spirituals,
folk music, musical theater, traditional sacred and secular
pieces. Averaging 25-35 voices strong, the men sing for civic,
church, business and private groups throughout mid-Michigan.
They are a member of the Great Lakes Male Chorus Association.
Matthew
Packer is the FMC director and holds a Masters Degree in Music
from Central Michigan University. Matt is also the music director
at the Flushing Methodist Church. Cathy Watson is the FMC
accompanist who holds a Bachelors Degree in Music from Central
Michigan University and also accompanies the choirs at the
Clio and Flushing High Schools.
The FMC
was organized in 1943 as the "Chevrolet-Flint Male Chorus."
The Chevrolet Manufacturing Plant in downtown Flint employed
most of the men at the time. The singers have been independent
of General Motors for the last thirty-five years, and range
in age from twenty to eighty and come from all walks of life
in Flint and surrounding communities. They are always looking
for more good men! And more concert dates!
