June 2008

Worship & Music - our current practice of greeting and ‘passing the peace' at the end of the worship service is going well but will be evaluated later.
Christian Education - construction of our 4th of July float is underway. We need a wagon wheel and an old American flag with 48 stars. Vacation Bible School needs empty 2-liter plastic pop bottles for one of their projects.
Outreach - a new brochure for local businesses and the Detroit area churches, advertising our church service is now available. We are looking at sweat shirts or polo shirts with the church logo and license plates as a means of advertising our church.
Deacons - 2 Coins A Meal receipts for May totaled $78.00.
Fellowship - 2 new coffee urns have been purchased.
Stewardship/Finance - statements for general fund giving and BGV will be sent to everyone by the end of June. YTD Operating Fund - $7,641; YTD BGV - $17,540. Now that all the "snow birds" are back, hopefully giving will increase. New internet service is now installed, so remember to use the new E-mail addresses. (See elsewhere in this issue.)
Memorial - new plantings have been done and the bronze plaque has been installed.
Facilities - new energy-efficient low-heat light bulbs have been installed over the choir. Our AED (Defibrillator) is being upgraded.
Personnel - the Wednesday "office angels" were discontinued, per their request.

- Jim Murton, Clerk of Session

The Facilities Committee would like to extend their thanks and appreciation to everyone who turned out on May 17th for the Annual Clean-Up Day. If your name was not included in the June Connections, this is for YOU! All jobs were accomplished, a tasty lunch was served, and the fellowship was great!

Our ORGAN CONCERT this year will be Friday, October 10 at 7:00 p.m. The guest artist is Scott Hanoian, son of Mr. And Mrs. Peter Hanoian, Tawas residents and members of Christ episcopal Church. Scott was assistant organist at the National Cathedral in Washington D.C. for several years, and is now Director of Music at Christ Episcopal in Grosse Pointe, MI.
