In the
fall of 2005, the Session authorized the formation of a "Steering
Committee" to pursue planning for Phase I of "Building
God's Vision". Using the conceptual plans drawn in 2003
by John Jensen, our "architect in residence", the
committee was to come up with working plans and real cost
estimates for presentation to our congregation. Thus, the
process started for "Building God's Vision".
The Steering
Committee consisted of: Pastor Vogeley, John Jensen, Walter
Fales and Al Gould (from Stewardship and Finance), Phil MacLeod,
Lee Parker, and later, Jerry Wergedal (from Facilities).
The winter of 05 and 06 consisted of monthly meetings
looking at blueprints, planning and making informational presentations
to church officers and church members, and planning for the
financial requirements. This all culminated with a congregational
meeting in June of 2006, with approval to proceed.
The summer
of 06 was spent planning for and carrying out the financial
campaign to support the project. On Sunday, August 27, 2006,
"Consecration Sunday", the TAPC congregation pledged
their financial support. We will proceed with Phase I of "Building
God's Vision".
The process
continued with blueprints sent to 3 general contracting firms
for bids. Bids were returned, reviewed and a general contractor,
B & B of Oscoda, was selected. In October, ground was
broken and BGV was underway.
In the
months that followed, the committee met with the architect
and general contractor
every 2 weeks to review progress, discuss changes, and review
costs.
All of
the efforts came to a beautiful completion with "Dedication
Sunday", August 19, 2007. Phase I of "Building God's
Vision" was complete! Our "campus" has grown
to include a new Parlor, a beautiful Memorial Garden, a unique
Bell tower, a new Storage Pavilion and a new access drive
to Aulerich Road.
God continues
to shower His blessings on this congregation.
