On Saturday
night the 27th the celebration began with a Drive-In-Movie
Night on the big lawn next to the parking lot. Over 75
people enjoyed the movie Hook' (a sequel to the
story of Peter Pan, starring Dustin Hoffman & Robin Williams.)
Special thanks to Shaynee Paauwe for arranging the company
from Indiana to come and set up the huge screen and provide
the popcorn and show the movie. A beautiful August night under
the stars, reminding some folks of an earlier time when they
attended the old Drive-In-Movie at the same location.
Then on
Sunday morning the 28th over 190 people attended the 20th
Anniversary Homecoming Celebration. The worship service was
led by all three pastors who have served this congregation
- Jan Chambers, Ken Tousley, and Rick Vogeley. The choir -
(24 strong!) opened and closed the worship plus singing a
beautiful anthem. Allen Hearn, Patty Chonich & Patty Vogeley
graced us on the piano. Communion was also celebrated. Patty
Vogeley, in addition to directing the choir, accompanied on
the organ, and then ended the service with the powerful Vidor's
Toccata'. The Lord was truly worshiped in praise
and song.
After
worship a Program of Recognition and Remembrance was held
in the sanctuary, led by master of ceremonies - Lee Parker.
The 1991 Charter members in attendance were recognized, along
with many people who gave (and still give) their time and
talent to the church over the years - crafters, teachers,
grass mowers, cookie bakers, choir, staff, and many others.
Also former members, who came back to celebrate with us, were
able to share memories from the past. The 3 pastors concluded
the remembrance time with a pastors meeting' in which
the congregation could listen in on their private' and
humorous conversations about their time serving this congregation.
A luncheon, catered by Wiltses, was served in the parlor where
the homecoming celebration continued into the afternoon.
All who
attended received a Memory Book - over 55 pages of
memories' sent in by current and former members.
A new anniversary Pictorial Directory was also produced,
plus new Postcards with a photo of the church. On display
in the narthex are two large History Scrapbooks
from 1986 - 2011, plus Scrapbooks on all the
July 4th Parade Floats, and the 2007 construction project.
A complete history of the church, from 1986 to 2011, was compiled
by Jan Chambers, Max Cramer and Rick Vogeley and is on display
and can be purchased for $4.00. Historical photos of all kinds
adorned all the bulletin boards throughout the church. A DVD
photo history of the church was produced and ran continuously
on the TV monitor in the narthex next to the history tables.
Special
thanks to Jan Fox and Jan Chambers and the Anniversary committee
- Lee & Ileen Parker, Lyle Passmore, Mary Hall, Jeanne
Hebner, Betty & Andre DeWilde, Shirley MacLeod, Rick &
Patty Vogeley, Judie Allen, Brad Trickey and the Facilities
committee, for making the celebration one for the history
books. Now the Lord leads us into the future.
