The
economic forecasts on TV and in the news are disheartening
to say the least. After you have tightened your belt one more
notch and begin to examine your own self worth, may I suggest
that you read what Paul wrote while in a dungeon and denied
of every comfort...Philippians 4:1-13, and then I share this
story with you...
A story
is told of a king who went into his garden one morning and
found everything withered and dying. He asked the Oak
tree that stood near the gate what the trouble was. He found
that it was sick of life and determined to die because it
was not tall and beautiful like the Pine. The Pine
was all out of heart because it could not bear grapes like
the Vine. The Vine was going to throw life away
because it could not stand erect like the Peach tree.
The Geranium was fretting because it was not tall and
fragrant like the Lilac, and so on and on throughout
the garden. Coming to the Heart's-ease, he found its
bright face lifted up as cheery as ever. "Well, Heart's-ease,
I am glad amidst this discouragement to find one brave little
flower. You do not seem to be the least disheartened."
No, I'm not much account, said the Heart's-ease, but
I thought that if you wanted an Oak, or a Pine, or a Peach,
or a Lilac, you would have planted one; but as I knew you
wanted a Heart's-ease, I am determined to be the very best
Heart's-ease I can.
Paul
says: I've learned to be satisfied with what I have.........and
that anywhere, at any time I am content.....Phil.
4:1-13 The "good news" is that the "bad news"
is wrong!
